According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are interested in signing Ivan Toney from Brentford, with the striker emerging as a late summer transfer target. Toney, who is also wanted by Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, has less than a year left to run on his existing contract. Chelsea are after a proven goalscorer to be their new No 9 and have been linked with a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but Toney is a more affordable option.

Toney was left out of Brentford's first two Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Liverpool and was also omitted from the squad for Wednesday's trip to Colchester United in the Carabao Cup second round. He has become a target because of his scoring record, his Premier League experience, his relatively low wages and the fact he has only one year left on his contract.

Any deal for the striker will only happen if the transfer fee and wages are at a reasonable level. Toney has a lucrative offer from Al Ahli and Chelsea would not be able to match the wages on offer from Saudi Arabia, but can offer Premier League football and the chance to remain in west London.

Al Ahli, who have former Premier League players in their squad, have yet to meet Brentford's valuation of the England international.
